Would it be better to dress as a particular character or just as a general woman? What clothes and accessories would be needed and in what style? Is it better to just do basics or make the maximum effort to look as feminine as possible? What advice would you give to a man dressing up as a woman for a costume party?
It depends what you're aiming at. Are you aiming at a comical look or a real woman look?
If comical then a rocky horror picture show look would be cool. Or you could dress as as some other real woman but make it look a bit like a walking caricature.
If you want to look like a real woman rather than a man in drag then dress as a general woman as it will probably be more convincing. Your own natural features can be changed with make up and other accessories such as false breasts and so that the best female you can emerge.
You can buy false hips which make your hips look wider and your bum rounder more like a woman. Add this to false breasts, a nice wig, make up (get a real woman to help you apply it if you can). What you wear depends on your figure. If you look good in it I suggest a bright red bikini top, tight leather mini-skirt, wide belt with a big gold silver buckle, black stockings which end an inch or two above the hem of your mini-skirt, red pants (to show when you bend over %26amp; which match your bikini top), black heeled shoes. Unless you are used to wearing stilettos it would be best to wear sexy shoes with a lower, wider heel otherwise you'll be hobbling and limping all night or else removing your shoes and probably laddering your stockings!
If you don't think you have the figure for bikini top and mini-skirt then you could wear a bra, partly transparent, sleeveless blouse, and a floaty, knee length skirt. Again, stockings (or tights) and shoes as above.
Be safe - unless you look indistinguishable from a woman or else obviously in a fancy dress costume then better not to walk around in rough areas of the city/town!!
Have lots of fun at the party. What advice would you give to a man dressing up as a woman for a costume party?
I've worked late night in a petrol station and have seen some strange things! One woman came in about 8pm once with foil over her hair as she was dying it - she thought we closed a lot earlier than we did lol and have seen drunks and junkies as well as other things. There was a customer who often came in with a trout pout! I would just take it in my stride and not make a big thing about it as you don't know how the customer would react. I would discus it later though lol ;-)
For you, I would clearly suggest you dress up as Cruella deVille (from the movie ';101 Dalmations'; 1959/61)! Long cigarette holder, heels - the works. (You can skip all the dogs.)
The only other thing I might pass along is this: if you're fairly tall, don't wear a print. Wear something plain.
comfortable shoes avoid heels done it last year and my feet were killing me for days after.
I had a female friend helping with the accessorising but you need to go for a look i.e. burlesque , prostitute, glamourous
Do the worst possible impression everyone loves a terrible parody!!
Look as masculine as possible...... rumours can start
